Light charged fermions in quantum gravity

چکیده
We study the impact of quantum gravity on a system chiral fermions that are charged under an Abelian gauge group. Under gravity, finite value coupling could be generated and in turn drive four-fermion interactions to criticality. find indications gravity-gauge-fermion interplay protects lightness for large enough number fermions. On other hand, smaller fermions, symmetry may broken, which would tension with observation light

Fermions in quantum gravity.
We study the quantum fermions+gravity system, that is, the gravitational counterpart of QED. We start from the standard Einstein-Weyl theory, reformulated in terms of Ashtekar variables; and we construct its non-perturbative quantum theory by extending the loop representation of general relativity. To this aim, we construct the fermion equivalent to the loop variables, and we define the quantum...
متن کاملChiral fermions in asymptotically safe quantum gravity
We study the consistency of dynamical fermionic matter with the asymptotic safety scenario of quantum gravity using the functional renormalisation group. Since this scenario suggests strongly coupled quantum gravity in the UV, one expects gravity-induced fermion self-interactions at energies of the Planck scale. These could lead to chiral symmetry breaking at very high energies and thus to larg...
متن کاملFermions in three-dimensional spinfoam quantum gravity
We study the coupling of massive fermions to the quantum mechanical dynamics of spacetime emerging from the spinfoam approach in three dimensions. We first recall the classical theory before constructing a spinfoam model of quantum gravity coupled to spinors. The technique used is based on a finite expansion in inverse fermion masses leading to the computation of the vacuum to vacuum transition...
متن کاملThe Lamb shift contribution of very light milli–charged fermions
The leading order vacuum polarization contribution of very light milli–charged fermions with charge εe and mass μ to the Lamb shift of the hydrogen atom is shown to imply a universal, i.e. μ–independent, upper bound on ε : ε < ∼ 10 for μ < ∼ 1 keV. This is in contrast to expectations based on the commonly used approximation to the Uehling potential.
متن کاملLight-like scattering in quantum gravity
We consider scattering in quantum gravity and derive long-range classical and quantum contributions to the scattering of light-like bosons and fermions (spin-0, spin1 2 , spin-1) from an external massive scalar field, such as the Sun or a black hole. This is achieved by treating general relativity as an effective field theory and identifying the non-analytic pieces of the one-loop gravitational...
